Privacy Policy

Your story is yours. Full stop.

Effective July 15, 2026 · Contact: support@familydiary.ai

The short version

  • Your life stories, recordings-turned-text, and photos belong to you.
  • We never sell your data and never use your stories to train AI models.
  • Diaries are private by default — you decide who reads them.
  • You can export everything or delete your account (and all its data) at any time.
  • We never see your payment card — Apple and Google handle billing.

What we collect

Account information: your name and email address (or your Apple/Google sign-in identity), so you can sign in securely.

Your story content: the answers you speak or type, the polished diary text created from them, the names and photos of family members you add, and the photographs you attach. Voice is transcribed on your own device; we receive the text, not audio recordings.

Subscription state: whether your subscription is active, via receipts from Apple or Google. We never receive your card number.

Technical basics: the minimum operational logs needed to keep the service secure (for example, hashed identifiers used to block repeated wrong guesses of family codes). We do not log the content of your answers, and we do not use advertising trackers — anywhere.

How your content is used

Story text is processed by our AI writing service (OpenAI's API) for one purpose only: turning your spoken words into polished diary passages and choosing the next good question to ask. Under our API agreement, that content is not used to train AI models. Your content is never used for advertising and never sold or rented to anyone.

Who can see a diary

Only the storyteller and the family members they invite. Private diaries require both an unguessable link and a 6-digit family code (stored encrypted). A storyteller can make a diary public, reset its link and code, or remove a family member at any time. Our staff do not read diaries except when legally required or when you explicitly ask us to help with a support problem.

Where data lives

Data is stored encrypted with our cloud database provider (Supabase) in the United States, and the website is served by Vercel. Each provider processes data under a data-processing agreement. Payment processing stays entirely with Apple and Google.

Your rights

From the app's Settings you can export your complete story and photos, or delete your account — deletion permanently removes your stories, photos, family list, and memberships. Depending on where you live (GDPR, CCPA, and similar laws), you also have rights to access, correct, and port your data; email support@familydiary.ai and we will honor them.

Children

Family Diary is for adults. Family members must be 13 or older to create a reading account.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app and by email before the change takes effect.
