Terms & Conditions
The agreement, in plain English.

1. The service
Family Diary is an app and website that helps a storyteller record their life story through daily questions, voice answers, and AI-assisted writing, and lets invited family members read it. These terms are an agreement between you and Family Diary ("we", "us").
2. Your account
You must be an adult to create a storyteller account, and 13 or older for a family reading account. Keep your sign-in method secure — you are responsible for activity on your account. One storyteller diary per account.
3. Your content and ownership
You own your story. Everything you speak, type, or upload — and the polished diary created from it — is yours. You grant us only the limited license needed to operate the service: storing your content, processing it to write your diary, and showing it to the people you invite. That license ends when you delete the content or your account.
You are responsible for what you upload. Don't post content that is illegal, infringes someone else's rights, or harasses others. We may remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules or the law.
4. AI-written text
The diary's polished passages are generated by AI from your words. AI can make mistakes — review passages that matter and edit anything that isn't right (editing is built in). The storyteller's memory, not the AI text, is the authority on their own life.
5. Subscription and billing
Family Diary Premium costs $6.99/month or $49.99/year after a 7-day free trial, billed as an auto-renewing subscription through Apple's App Store or Google Play. You can cancel any time in your phone's subscription settings; access to writing features continues to the end of the paid period. You may also buy a one-time gift of a year, which the recipient redeems in the app. Refunds are handled by Apple and Google under their policies. If your subscription ends, your diary and photos remain readable — adding new content pauses until you resubscribe. See Pricing.
6. Family sharing
The storyteller controls sharing: QR code, family code, public/private setting, and removing members. Family members get read-only access and may not copy or republish a private diary without the storyteller's permission.
7. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect and how it's protected. It is part of these terms.
8. Service changes and availability
We work hard to keep Family Diary available and your data safe (including export tools you can use any time), but the service is provided "as is" — we can't promise uninterrupted availability. We may update features over time; if we ever discontinue the service, we will give you reasonable notice and time to export your story.
9. Liability
To the maximum extent the law allows, our liability for any claim related to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights that consumer law gives you and that cannot be waived.
10. Ending the agreement
You can stop using Family Diary and delete your account whenever you like. We may suspend or close accounts that violate these terms, with notice where practical and export access where lawful.
11. Changes to these terms
If we make material changes, we'll notify you in the app and by email before they take effect. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the updated terms.
